Downloading your entire journal?

I haven't seen the option (though I tend to be blind at times) but I was wondering about the possibility to download my entire journal to my computer for safekeeping. Perhaps an option to download all my entries with one click?

You should never type something important directly into a web form in your browser and store it online without a backup. I recommend using a proper word processing program and saving everything you write somewhere on your own computer off of the internet. I have a system where I use a separate document for each year of my dream journal, rather than creating a new file for each day, otherwise I would end up with thousands of individual documents. Then after typing up a complete year (from my original handwritten journals) and being satisfied with the final drafts for each entry, I'll print that year as a book.

Take pride in your dream journal. Treat it like a family album full of cherished photos.

I hear you, baku. When I first started it, I didn't expect to have so many entries. When I got to a hundred or so, I joined another dream site and copied my entries over to that site so that I'd have a back-up. It never did occur to me to keep any on disk. I guess I'll have to do that.

Well, I still keep typing everything online and I've been at DJ for over 5 years! I did a massive job of copying all my dreams into separate Word documents, using a naming convention based on dream dates. But that was probably almost 2 years ago and was sparked by the website being offline more than I liked. Thanks for reminding me, though, I should get up to date with my home copy of this journal. Maybe this weekend I will.

I've noticed activity on the website seems to be going down and the amount of spam comments in dreams is going up... I hope and trust that the site is still doing ok and will stay up and running :)

If people would report spam to me I would remove it. It gets reported now and then.

As far as the site going down, it's an issue with my server at home. Keep in mind this whole site, the hosting, everything comes out of my pocket, right now I can't afford to host it elsewhere because it takes a lot of resources. So I host it from home, the server gets hung up from time to time and I have to reboot. So while the site isn't going anywhere, I need to figure out a way to bring in some money from it to keep it hosted. I do have plans on revamping the layout to make it a bit more ad friendly, but again that takes time and right now my time is being spent working on projects that actually put food on my table.

Bumping this thread.. i want to request the possibility to download ones entire journal as well. Actually i thought i saw this announced somewhere on the site, but maybe that's a false memory!
You could start with something real basic, like a straight download of Excel representation of the data relevant database tables related to each user.. for tech savvy users this would be enough to create their local backups. In my case, i want to experiment and make some graphs etc with my keywords, maybe my dream ratings over time, check for patterns etc..

Six years later, I don't see this option either. Is it still not an option, or am I just oblivious?

No it's still not an option, it's a large undertaking. I do all this for free in my spare time so I do what I can. This is on a very long list of items I'd like to do.

Speaking of monetizing the site, I don't know perhaps there are some related companies or people working professionally in the realm of dreaming, lucid dreaming and the like who might be interested in a partnership, basically helping you fund and update the site in returns for ads and better access to the dream database.

There is quite a collection of dreams on this site with a lots of tags, keywords and references.

This might interest researcher and the like enough to actually fund you for greater access to the database, or for a copy of it from time to time.

Just my two cents.

If you want your dreams to be saved somewhere, then save them elsewhere before posting them on here. That is what I do. I write my dreams out in a notebook, and then copy them onto the internet.

If you already have dreams on here and want them saved, you can do that, or copy and paste them to some other program like Word or Notepad and store them on a flash drive or something. I mean sure, its going to be a painstaking process, but there are really no options.

I have been using this site for several years and dreams download is one of the most frequently asked options, but as webdiva said, its not possible at the current time.
