Laura Ingalls Wilder

Saturday, September 27 2014

It's not often I dream about famous people, but last night I dreamt that I moved into a house that Laura Ingalls Wilder lived in after her marriage. I didn't see the lady herself, but could sense her presence everywhere. In my dream, I had to undergo an arduous journey, which I can't remember much of except that it involved an escape and a hazardous train ride over a deep ravine. On arrival, I was admitted to the house by a housekeeper who had known LIW, and a handyman, both of whom were clearl

Teeth falling out - with a twist

Rating
Monday, September 22 2014

The "teeth falling out" dream is a classic, of course, and one that I too have occasionally, but this time it took a slightly different turn. I was clothes shopping in the mall, and out of sheer boredom decided to try on some 8-inch platform heels (not my thing at all, I'm very much a comfortable flatty kind of person). While trying to stand up in them, all my upper teeth fell out, all at once, like removing the upper part of a set of dentures. Horrified, I kicked off the shoes and rushed to th

Lecturing a medical conference... I found this "humerus".

Rating
Saturday, August 30 2014

I quite often find myself dreaming about studying medicine - probably wish fulfilment. However, last night's dream took an unexpected and rather funny twist. I was walking down the road with my ex-husband when we were called in and given half an hour to prepare a presentation on the advantages of a non-vegetarian diet for a room full of medical doctors. It fell to me to do this assignment, as my ex is currently going through a vegan phase (in waking life). The irony is, I actually prefer a vege

Dead people

Rating
Friday, August 29 2014

First things first: I do not believe that death is the end, I believe that death is merely a transition into another state of being - like taking off a heavy overcoat as you walk into your home after a long trip away. My Dad passed away in 2007 aged 61, and I quite often dream that his death was some kind of elaborate hoax, and that we are now waiting for him to pass for the second time. This is something which makes me really angry in my dreams - I find myself complaining that people were so l

Baths and hospitals

Rating
Thursday, August 28 2014

Baths and hospitals are recurrent features of my dreams. In fact, the latter always take place in the same hospital: it doesn't appear to exist in waking life, but I have become so familiar with it in my dream life that I could probably draw a map of the place. I can only remember a couple of fragments of last night's dreams, but both these topics were covered. 1. In the bath. The baths I dream about are usually those marvellous, blissfully deep ones like they have in Japan in which you can sit

Losing my bits....

Rating
Tuesday, August 26 2014

Back on here after a lengthy break. My dreams are often monotonously repetitive, but last night's was a brief attack of one-off weirdness. I dreamt that I was in the shower, but unexpectedly found myself bleeding heavily. Glanced at the side of the shower, and noticed that my uterus, ovaries and Fallopian tubes were lying there, all washed clean but no longer usable.

At college

Rating
Monday, July 19 2010

Had another dream last night which tends to recur a lot. I dreamed I was at college, studying dance (with my age, size and flat feet most unlikely!) and had to take an examination. The examiner told me that I was not suited to be a dancer (what a surprise), but with my personality and sense of humour I would be perfect for the stage. The rest of the dream was all about my room in the students' hall of residence. Every student had his or her own room with French doors opening to a narrow corrido

Tamworth Castle

Last night I dreamed that I took my 9-year-old son to visit my parents in Tamworth (UK), the town where I grew up (that was an anomaly from the start, because my parents moved away from Tamworth before my son was born, and my dad died 3 years ago). Felix (my son) kept wandering off and reappearing during the dream (something he would never normally do), which entailed quite a lot of panic-stricken searching and jumping on and off buses and trains at intervals throughout my dream. Anyway, my mum

Last night I dreamed that I was in Freiburg and went to visit the business college where I used to teach English. When I went in, I was surprised to see that the ground floor had been turned into a supermarket - offering British food, which was a pleasant surprise because I do miss food from home. I instinctively knew that the supermarket had been set up in collaboration with the college so that those of the students studying management could practise their skills there. I went up to the next f
