Happiness is a Cowsills comic book...

Sunday, February 22 1970

Morning of February 22, 1970. Sunday.         These are seeds which grew into personal legends and dreams over forty years later. Here I am sitting on the kitchen floor in 1968 (just prior to moving to Cubitis from North Monroe) reading a Cowsills comic. "What in the world is a Cowsill?" is a good question. It was hard to believe that the same people who produced Casper the Friendly Ghost and Spooky and Wendy...and Hot Stuff the Little Devil produced this.

Sunday, February 22 1970

Night of February 22, 1970. Sunday. (My first viewing of "Born Free" on television.)        This was my dream of Dick Van Dyke standing on the right arm (when facing me) of a large five-pointed star actually hanging in a rather unrealistic rendering of outer space (which seemed to include "flotsam and jetsam" - possibly a play on my dislike of "The Jetsons"), as well as the additional partial "replay" of an o

Morning of February 14, 1970. Saturday.        As was sometimes the case, my dream state would produce imagery that was of far more interest and detail than the movie that mostly influenced it. In this case, my dream and dream memory actually "replaced" the imagery of the movie with a far more vivid intensity over time. In my dream, the frog-like creature of "It's Alive!" (listed as being from 1964 in the original televisi

Sunday, February 8 1970

Late morning of February 8, 1970. Sunday.        I am at the school cafeteria where the primary students (grades one to five) shared this large area with the high school (grades nine to twelve) students in Arcadia.         In my dream, the cafeteria is actually a television studio. Art James, or a composite of Art James and Brenda W's father (who had a slightly similar look but hippie-like), is there and I am as well, but

The "Tired" Queen

Saturday, February 7 1970

Morning of February 7, 1970. Saturday.         The number of times I started to write a story from what I thought was a fairly interesting and original dream concept only to later (often within a day or two) see it in a comic or TV show is a quite high number.         A good example involves a dream I had as a boy of going through a standing automobile tire into another world. After that dream, the first new comic book I
