Horned birds

Rating
Saturday, April 22 2017

4. I had a husband and a grown-up daughter in this dream. We lived in a house the interior of which resembled the upstairs in gran’s house, and had a big paved and fenced backyard.   I kept birds that looked like hairy horned chickens and were notoriously difficult to breed. Their hair/fur was brown and horns black. One of the male birds had wonky horns – one huge right on top of its head and a tiny one on the right temple. That particular bird couldn’t find a mate,

3. Michael is marching in a straight line across the fields through the blizzard, strumming a small guitar and singing in a hoarse, raspy voice. He is wearing warpaint and an unbuttoned brown shearling coat. I cannot make sense of what he sings, it’s like a really bad death metal growl; however, the sound of both his voice and guitar stays the same volume even when he falls face first in a snowbank and then crosses a river walking underwater. He walks past a lean-to where two boys in their

Investigation leads to gun store

Rating
Monday, April 17 2017

Hometown, early autumn day. I’m taking out a loan to ‘buy a Mercedes’, that's what I write when I fill in the form. However, it’s not for myself, but for a young woman, a student who helps me with an investigation. She has faked her death and I have to find out who benefits from her being dead. Her doctor was arrested for her murder and I’m crossing the Prison Bridge towards the town, wearing an augmented reality device and watching an evidence recording of them

Volcano vacation

Rating
Saturday, April 15 2017

I’m on holiday in Italy near a volcano, for one week. On the first two days, several terror acts happen. There had been a film festival and Shailene Woodley got killed. In my hotel room I watch Emma Watson and Kristen Stewart on television, expressing their condolences. On the third day I go swimming in the ocean. On the way back I take a stroll through sunlit gardens on the steep hillside and marvel how quiet it is now that all the tourists have run off. The day after I explore the ru

Gravity-defying river

Rating
Thursday, April 6 2017

Durham, a cool and cloudy summer day. I walk along a quiet wide river just outside the city. Another river branches off it and I follow it. It’s very fast and goes uphill through the city, instead of the main street. There are houses and wide stairs on both sides of it and people go about their daily business without paying much attention to the foaming raging river defying the laws of gravity so blatantly. The climb goes on for about half a mile and at the top of the hill the rive

  1. Summer evening, might be near Leven. I’m on the bus with Kiddo when the driver suddenly stops and insists we need to get off the bus and talk to his friend. We get off and the bus leaves. The driver’s friend is standing outside a little shop, illuminated by the lights of its windows. He is dressed in a uniform, but I cannot yet distinguish whether he’s a pilot or a ship’s captain. He has several bags on the ground around him and a small dead dolphin. I decide

Grenades for birthday

Rating
Tuesday, April 4 2017

I’m in a glass block hall with Kiddo and an unfamiliar young woman. We’re all festively dressed; I know my birthday party is about to begin shortly. There is a sofa near a glass wall with some presents that had been sent to me. One box holds about two dozen grenades and I put a sofa cushion on top of it, so that Kiddo wouldn’t touch them. I call her and my friend with me to go to the room where the party is to be held, but we get lost and end up in an exhibition of unusual

Eternity in Hell over a potato?!

2. Summer, a dusty backyard surrounded by a chain link fence. In the middle of the yard is a rusted old bathtub. Around forty big black-and-white birds and some twenty young women surround it. They look angry and exhausted; the general atmosphere is of doom and apprehension like something gory and violent is about to happen. A young blonde woman is sitting on the side of the bathtub holding a small axe. She suddenly stands up, the crowd parts before her; she marches to the fence th

2. I went to Bury St Edmunds and attended a finishing school there. The classroom consisted of a few rows of desks in a huge ballroom with a parquet flooring and dark green velvet drapes. Girls sat to the right and guys to the left; everyone was dressed and made up to the nines. Although I was my present age, I didn’t seem to understand much, but the teachers never pointed that out. One answer I gave was “Pre-frontal cortex” that I knew was wrong, but the teacher just nodded

5. Hometown, early autumn. I’m walking around the town centre feeling happy and playful. I’m wearing the long black coat that I made when I was 19. Actually, I feel distinctly 19. I notice Ricardo at quite a distance and make up a game in my mind where I’ll run into him as if by accident, pretend not to know him and make his acquaintance again. It turns into quite a chase down the whole length of the High street. I run, laughing and cannot tell whether he has noticed me and
