Snowy sadness

Dozens of young children of about 6 or 7 were building gravestones out of snow for their dead parents. A man in a black suit and tie was walking about, inspecting their work. The cemetery was a flat, wide field with neat rows of barely visible mounds under the snow, and the gravestones were all square and uniform. Monastery in winter and birds in the spring

I lived in a monastery with lots of other people - monks, nuns and ordinary folks too. Peter was there and we slept in separate beds, side by side, holding hands. The dormitory was huge, with two endless rows of beds. When all the noise died down at sleeptime, I went to him for a cuddle. In the morning Peter was gone; nobody knew where. Dark Lake

  I'm making my way through a boardwalk maze over a big dark lake. It's a summer evening, just after sunset. The bridges and docks seem to shift and at one point I find myself facing an open stretch of water and when I try to return the same way I got there, I see only one narrow beam behind me. I lose my balance and dive. It's an amazing full-on feeling of immersing in the cool, black water; it's clean, mostly free of waterweeds and not as cold as it looks
