Sleepyheads

1. Christmas, an unfamiliar flat where I live with Laura and two unfamiliar girls (maybe Kazakh or Tatar, but they speak Russian). We exchange presents; I give Laura a pack of ribbons and she presents me with a game similar to twister, but here you have to step on small coloured balloons to pop them. Happy and tired I go to sleep. I’m alone in my room, but just as I’m falling asleep, Laura opens the door and shows an uninvited guest in, asking if he can spend the night here. I tak

Old Town

3. Gran’s house, but distorted. I am getting ready to sleep on an extensible armchair and am looking for someplace to hide a handful of gemstones, probably amber. I hide them in a cup of lentils and put the cup under my pillow. I sleep, it is cold. In the morning my gran wakes me up saying: “Happy Princess day!”, and gives me a hollow chocolate egg, big as a rugby ball. It has numbers 10 and 20 stamped all over it. I get the cup from under my pillow and hear a message in my

Fake lucid dream and false awakening

1. I’m in an empty unfamiliar room. I realise I’m in a dream while looking out of the window at a beginning snowfall over a freshly ploughed field. To test this realisation, I decide to do something that would be impossible for me in the real world and do a handstand near a silver-coloured round fireplace. Everything is very clear – I look down at my hands and make a mental note that there is no wedding band on my ring finger. Near my right hand there are some white birch r

Xenomorph metamorphosis (Alternate POV)

Rating
Sunday, March 26 2017

  4. First I watched this as a movie. Two xenomorphs arrived on a space ship from a planet and killed everyone aboard, not in a very gory manner though. Then I watched it again and the movie changed – it was revealed that these xenomorphs used to be humans and one of them, who used to be a young ginger guy, had a change of heart and let one person escape to a planet. From his point of view I saw that it was a young woman with short undercut hair in various shades of light blue, dre

Castle Hill

    2. Me and Kiddo were in what first looked like a church (only saw inside) – huge halls, high vaulted ceilings, lots of candles, white roses and silver ornaments. There was a statue of Virgin Mary and I was surprised when Kiddo crossed herself in front of it. She said she’d been taught that in school. However, the building turned out to be a castle with a café where tourists could have a cup of coffee in the genuine 18th century atmosphere. We did to

Detained on the border

Rating
Friday, March 3 2017

1. I had gone from Hometown to Belarus on foot. This mostly involved climbing sandy hills overgrown with spring flowers, although at one point I walked through a dimly lit airport and stopped to talk to some Polish guys, telling them that Manchester is a beautiful city, but Colchester is even more so, trying to make use of about a dozen words I know of Polish. On the way back, I got detained at the border. I had a radio in a hip holster and used it to call the border patrol officer of a

Garden party, tribunal and bookstore

1. I lived in an unfamiliar nondescript flat and had neighbours Florence and Florian who were barricading my door with rubbish bags, practically building a wall out of them. I tricked them into removing the bags, although the details of this are fuzzy. I got out and went for a walk in a garden with my mother. It was late summer evening and the garden was exquisite – with small ponds, flowers and trees strung with string lights. Mother told me that she had cooked a piece of honey soap,

Raft race and malevolent trees

Rating
Tuesday, February 21 2017

1. A win-or-die kind of race in bamboo rafting. Except instead of rafting in a lake or river, I race down a steeply tilted semi-circular concrete drain at a breakneck speed, balancing sideways on a single golden stem and holding another one for balance. The diameter of the drain is only very slightly bigger than my ‘raft’ and am wary of getting my toes shredded.   2. A hillside in a forest. There is not much vegetation under the trees, apart from some white daffod

Lost in translation; also cars and ballet

1. A black car is sliding sideways on parallel ziplines; it’s attached by the wheels, upside down. I am guiding it along with one hand and, although I can barely reach it, it slides easily. It’s a sunny summer say and we’re in a quiet town, but as I keep most of my attention on the car, I don’t notice much else. A green car is in my way, but I march right over its bonnet. For a moment I see myself from the point of view of the green car’s owner who has heard the

The undead

1. A long dream about Methos faking his death again and again, but leaving a clue every time for me to find. The last time seemed hopeless; I knew that there was a clue in a painting, but nothing else. I was in a big room with amber-coloured walls and there were paintings everywhere, both framed and unframed, hanging on the walls and propped against them, and stacks of unframed sketches covering every surface. I called my friends for help. Maria brought a watercolour painting of purple m
