Vincent's rooms

04.08 The dream was long, but fractured, I don’t remember it all. The first scene was of Vincent standing on the roof of a white car in a traffic jam, addressing the people climbing out of their cars to look at him, but I can’t say whether he was singing or shouting at them gleefully as the sound gets tricky in the Deep. The end of the dream was me literally pushing the walls of my Dreamworld to extend it and make space for him. Inside the walls there were dark dusty spaces tha

Amber and Nightshade

I lied to my family and told them I’m going on a date with my boyfriend, but instead I went to the cemetery to work on a scientific paper in mineralogy on the properties of Baltic amber. The cemetery was stunning in the silence of the clear autumn afternoon and the variety of colours of the autumn leaves. I sat on a bench reading a book that mostly had charts and diagrams, waiting for my scientific advisor. He soon arrived and when I told him about my lie, he flirtatiously said it does

I’m in the Summerhouse with Kiddo, we’re getting ready for a fancy-dress party in school. We have same costumes – long silk skirt (mine is teal and hers is red), black corset top and white fluffy capelet. We’re in a hurry, but miss the train to town anyway, and decide to go on foot. It’s a cloudy day in late spring and the going is easy. I enjoy the feel of silk swishing against my legs. Instead of 3-4 hours the walk takes only about ten minutes. We’re on

Twilight, my present home. I’m leaving the house to go to the garden, but the whole way I’m dragging an endless extension cord with me. Then we’re riding bikes with Tanya in an unfamiliar part of the town. It’s still cloudy twilight. Tanya’s hair is getting in her eyes all the time and we’re riding at a top speed looking for a hairdresser’s. I see a salon named ‘Gaia’ downhill and we both ride there. I brake too late and ride through

Toys, boys and the power of my voice

Summer, English countryside. I’m a guest in a posh mansion, spending most of the time entertaining the lady of the house by playing music and engaging in intelligent conversation. The dream is unusually filled with sound – music, birdsong through the open French door, the sound of my own voice that seems to flow untamed and unobstructed. Afterwards I say my goodbyes to the lady of the house and go to staff quarters to return the violin I’ve been playing. A middle-aged m

Post-apocalyptic broadcast

1. Post-apocalyptic setting – a huge city of mostly crumbling or burned out tower blocks, overcast gray sky, no green anywhere. For some unspecified reason, it is impossible to travel by land and the few remaining survivors are trapped in the top levels of the tower blocks that have survived destruction. I’ve made my home in what looks like a publisher’s office, at least I know that I while away the days by reading, feeling calm and unhurried. I also listen to the messag

I’m in a little seaside town that I think is Walton-on-the-Naze. I’m slowly making my way through a crowded, tobacco smoke filled hall, looking for someplace to sit down, but can’t find any. The overall atmosphere is one of nervous expectation. I hear someone say that George Ezra is here; I pay it little attention, but catch a glimpse of him over the crowd when I’m making my way out through the dark corridors. Then it’s some weeks later and I get a chance to mee

Sleepwalker'n'Seagulls

4. A boy of about twelve years of age was stuck on a small rocky island overgrown with juniper, about a hundred yards from the shore. The boy had sleepwalked there during the low tide and scaled the cliff face to the top, but now the tide was rising, and the boy was awake and panicking. He cried and screamed, but there was no one on the shore to hear him as there was no civilisation, just pine forest. Some time later when the water was already halfway to the top of the island, Herman, Rem

  2. A barn is being transported along a country road. The door is open and facing backwards. Inside there is some hay and tools. A guy and a brown horse sit side by side looking at the roadside landscape passing by. The horse sits like a dog and seems to be paying genuine attention. The guy has so far been chewing a straw with a bored expression on his face, but he suddenly gets up, leans out through the open door to reach the eaves and slowly, laboriously climbs on the roof. The ho

Shameless

(There was some pre-history of me working in a field with various men, including twin Ruuds, but I don’t remember it that well.) 1. I’m walking towards the school and am just turning the corner to Crest road when I run into the most handsome man who’s walking the same way with his grandparents. His grandmother seems to think we’re acquainted and takes his grandfather by the hand and quickens the pace to give us some privacy to talk. We do so, reluctantly and awkwardly
