Taking photos of snow

Rating
Monday, December 26 2016

I was in my house in Kayenta. I stepped outside to maybe a foot of snow. I grabbed my camera. Only some snow was on the rail of the porch. I took a photo with that and the white scene in the background. I went to the driveway to get more shots. I took a photo of the snow on the fence and snow on a branch. I was shooting at f/5.6 but stopped down to f/8 because it was so bright. But at f/8, the exposure was vastly different. The shutter speed was around 1 second. I didn't know why. I stopp

Backyard ocean

Rating
Monday, December 19 2016

My brother and I were on a small boat in our childhood backyard, which was underwater. The water level was at ground level. He was telling me about a photographer he learned of. I said that person was on "Tales by Light," a series I just watched. I said he should look at another photog too. I had one of my cameras with me. I wanted to shoot ocean wildlife. I saw a huge ray swim under the boat. I stepped out and walked in the water. It wasn't even knee deep. The ray swam by me, a

In trouble at a country club

Rating
Tuesday, December 13 2016

Tim Vines, a man (possibly my co-worker Andy) and I were in a country club. We were dressed nicely. I had on a large overcoat because it was raining. We were inside a building. Andy was leading us around. We left and went to another building next door. We followed Andy. All we did was go inside and use the free amenities. We got food and played some games. A security guard recognized Andy. He told someone else. This other person approached us. I either heard them talking or somehow knew what

A man tries to take a homeless man's photos

Rating
Tuesday, November 1 2016

I was in an alley surrounded by brick buildings. I was with a man around my age. I think he was homeless. He was looking through printed photographs. They looked like they were friends or people he knew. He was in some of them. It looked like they were taken around Lake Powell or somewhere in northern Arizona. He had some set up on a table. He was organizing more things. A man who looked like Omar from "The Wire" swooped in, grabbed some photos and ran off. I went after him and grab

In Chicago for an internship

Rating
Tuesday, October 4 2016

I was in western Chicago. I had just moved there for an internship at the Chicago Tribune. My friend Jen from Cedar Point also would be interning. My internship didn't start for a few days. I wanted to start a daily photo project, so I wandered around my neighborhood. A few blocks away was an area I really liked. It had some old buildings and lots of businesses. I waited to cross a street. Four or five preteen boys walked by me with their dog. One of them was trying to get the dog to stay

Lots of views on a photo site

Rating
Sunday, October 18 2015

I took what I felt was a rather dull photo and posted it on the daily photo website I use. It was a long exposure of some kind of lighting configuration over a river or stream. I don't know where it was. When I posted it on the site, people loved it. Someone ended up tweeting it, and it exploded in popularity. I kept getting notifications that people were "liking" it and commenting. It showed up on the "popular" section on the site. My email inbox was filling up. I

Buying a new lens

Rating
Tuesday, October 13 2015

I walked into an unfamiliar camera store. I wanted to buy a new lens. It was a gift to myself for getting a new job. The lens I wanted was a Canon L lens. It was a 400 mm f/2.8. It was shorter and wider than a 400 2.8, which was strange. I saw it in the glass counter and asked if I could mount it to my camera. The worker took it out and set it on the counter. There was a mount on the side of the lens. He told me to mount it there first. It was like a telescope for astrophotography. I felt rea

Modeling on stage

Rating
Sunday, September 20 2015

I was in a theater that was putting on some kind of fashion show or photo shoot. There was a white screen on the stage that models would stand behind to create a silhouette. A muscular male model stood behind it to get his photo taken, but he had to leave. The leader or director told me to take his place. I said I wasn't in as good of shape as him, but she said that didn't matter. I said I didn't know what to do. She said they'd direct me. She tried putting me at ease even tho

Photographing a raft from another raft

Rating
Wednesday, September 16 2015

I was on a raft on a large lake. I had out my camera or my phone and was taking pictures. There was a larger raft in the distance. Our rafts were circling an island. The other raft was on the opposite side of me, so I'd only occasionally see it appear from the island. When I did, I took pictures of it. Then I had some strange kind of photography device. It was large and beige and sort of like monoculars. I was looking at the raft. Then there was some kind of communications satellite that

Photography in Crimea

Rating
Sunday, March 23 2014

I was with my mom and brother in Crimea. We were walking on a dirt road in a forest. I had my camera and was taking pictures. We passed a field that looked like a graveyard. I thought it would make for great photos, so I tried framing some shots. But as I was shooting, a train pulled in. It crossed the road and stopped in the graveyard. I didn't notice the tracks when we crossed them, but they were there now. A lot of Ukrainians got off the train. They were dressed like the Jews in World War II
