I win headline awards and tell Betty

Rating
Tuesday, October 11 2016

I was reading the Austin American-Statesman's website and saw that it won a lot of awards at the Texas APME. I saw some design awards for the designers in West Palm Beach. I looked at the headline winners and saw that I took first place in a category. I was excited. I'd never won a headline award before. I looked through more and saw that I took first in a couple of other categories. I planned on putting the awards up on my desk at work. I also took third place in something. I was

Headline contest in line for Banshee

Rating
Thursday, August 11 2016

I was waiting in line for Banshee at Kings Island. There was a ride operator behind me. There was a booth or table set up. He was asking people to enter a contest to ride Banshee seven days a week. It was closed one a day week for staffing. I thought that was strange. I'd never seen an amusement park close a ride because of staffing levels. I went to the booth, which had a fish tank with three fish. The contest was to make headlines for the fish. The employees at the booth wanted a fun he

Not ready at work

Rating
Thursday, April 14 2016

I was at work, but the layout of the office was different. We didn't have the tall cubicle walls; instead they were shorter. I felt like my computer was facing a different direction. I had just finished reading a story and writing a headline. I marked it "ready." The designer came up to me and said it wasn't ready. I said I didn't know what happened. The headline didn't fill the count, and the story was too long. I went back into it to fix it.

My headline is changed

Rating
Thursday, October 15 2015

I was at work. I was working on an article and wrote a headline on it. I wasn't too happy with it, but I felt like it was good enough. Deadline was approaching, and I learned that things don't have to be perfect anymore. After it was finished, I went back and looked at the article. There was a better headline on it. I was a little upset with myself for not coming up with that one or something similar.

Miami Herald's messy newsroom

Rating
Tuesday, December 31 2013

I was inside the Miami Herald's new newsroom. It was extraordinarily messy -- messier than a normal newsroom. Not only were desks messy, but there were papers all over the floor. Some spaces beween cubicles were blocked because there was so much paper on the floor, I was fascinated by all the old things I saw. Most of the papers on the ground in front of me were yellowing newspapers with old headlines on them. They were about the moon landing and other important events from before I was born.

Tourist stop

Rating
Saturday, October 29 2011

My mom, brother and I were driving through the Hill Country. We stopped at a rest area near a lake. We walked down a long dirt trail that led to the visitors center. Some people were riding bikes or some kind of vehicles, and we came to a fork in the road. The people on the vehicles almost knocked me over because they just drove by.We got to the visitors center. It was crowded with tourists. A tour guide talks about the lake, which was named similar to Lake Marble Falls. We went into another room
