Back in a college dorm

Rating
Tuesday, April 25 2017

I was moving in to a dorm room to take some advanced college courses. The dorm was about as big as my apartment. It had a small window where the door to my apartment balcony is. It had a large desk with drawers on the left and a desk under the window. The beds were bunk beds and on the right. I had all my things unpacked but not much was set up. My Xbox was on the desk under the window. My phone rang. It was a man who interviewed me for a job a long time ago. He said the previous two people t

College journalism class

Rating
Monday, November 28 2016

I was in a classroom of about 30 people. Some of the students were my current co-workers. I was the age I am now. I felt like a know-it-all because I have been working for 10 years. I didn't know why I was in this class. My supervisor, Jodie, was our instructor. As people filtered into the class, I talked to the people seated around me. My co-worker Ethan sat next to me. Outside the window I saw a pickup hauling a flatbed. On the flatbed were two cars, one of which was turned sideways. Et

After work, I ride my bike

Thursday, November 3 2016

I was finishing my shift at my old job. I had on the public radio station and heard some news, so I forwarded the info to Paul, the reporter who just started his shift. I got up to leave and grabbed my cap. I put it on and noticed it felt bigger. I took it off and realized it wasn't my cap. I grabbed my cap and put it on. Both were University of Arizona, but the other person's was all blue. Mine has a white front. I went outside and hopped on a bicycle. It was the same type of bike I

My headline is changed

Rating
Thursday, October 15 2015

I was at work. I was working on an article and wrote a headline on it. I wasn't too happy with it, but I felt like it was good enough. Deadline was approaching, and I learned that things don't have to be perfect anymore. After it was finished, I went back and looked at the article. There was a better headline on it. I was a little upset with myself for not coming up with that one or something similar.

Angry at the anti-woman guy

Rating
Sunday, August 26 2012

I was at a meeting of AP journalists. We were in a room sitting around a big table. A man with white hair and big glasses made a comment about women, and I got mad. He tried to defend himself, but I cornered him. Then he said something like women shouldn't vote. That made me furious. I yelled at and pushed him. I said my mom's voted in every single election she could have. I punched him and tossed him around. He started to leave the room. He got a parting word out of something like

Work nightmare - shutting us down

Rating
Thursday, June 21 2012

I was at work. The publisher, who was someone else entirely, walked into the editor's office and closed the door. They talked for a while. Then the publisher came out and told the newsroom to gather round. He stands around not saying anything. He just sighs. Then he says, "There's no easy way to say this. We're not going to make it." Everyone gasps and starts murmuring. I think of making that the worst newsroom quote of the day and posting it on Facebook. Then he shows us a presentation that's

Crashing a wedding

Rating
Sunday, August 21 2011

I was in a large church or cathedral with my brother. We were there for a wedding of someone we didn't know. We entered the nave and walked to the front row to sit down. I said we couldn't sit there because that's where the closest family members sit. We moved back a row. Each row was made up of folding metal chairs. Two rows had jackets on them with the arm extended over several chairs to indicate someone was sitting there. I sat in a chair next to the jacket, but someone sat to my left. The j

Weird interview

Rating
Saturday, April 24 2010

I was in an office building to interview someone with a city utilities department. I had a notebook and some questions in it. I walked to a secretary at a desk and asked her where I'd find the city employee. She told me it was down the hall and the room on the right. I walked down the hall, but the room was difficult to find because there were six rooms in one area. The hallway met with five other halls, and there was a door at each corner. His office was one. I saw his name on a piece of paper

Presentation at high school

Rating
Tuesday, March 23 2010

I was in the math/senior wing of my high school. I walked in a classroom, which was my old journalism class, and I had to talk about media to the students. The desks weren't individual. They were rows of tables like in the science labs, except without the sinks. They all had computers at their tables. The tables faced the back of the room, and the teacher was standing behind her desk. I came in, but I didn't give a presentation. I just walked around the room talking about the media. I showed th

Showing off my work

Thursday, September 14 2006

I was walking around the Marshall building at the University of Arizona. It's the journalism building, and I was visiting some old professors of mine. I sat in the study lounge and waited for my former reporting public affairs professor to show up. I'd sent her my clips and asked her to tell me what she thought. She came into the room and had all my clips in her hand. She pointed to some she said were good, then she pointed to one she didn't like. It was a lead-in to a photo caption. The
