Teen on a 'hoverboard' bothering people

Rating
Thursday, January 19 2017

I was in an ambiguous area, maybe a dirt lot or field. There were some people there. A teenage boy was riding a "hoverboard" (one of those two-wheeled balancing boards) and bothering people. He was even harassing an overweight police officer. I tried to keep my distance because I didn't want him bugging me, but then I decided to step in. I got close to him but tried to act like nothing was going on. He turned so he was perpendicular to me. I reached down and grabbed his legs. I

In Chicago for an internship

Rating
Tuesday, October 4 2016

I was in western Chicago. I had just moved there for an internship at the Chicago Tribune. My friend Jen from Cedar Point also would be interning. My internship didn't start for a few days. I wanted to start a daily photo project, so I wandered around my neighborhood. A few blocks away was an area I really liked. It had some old buildings and lots of businesses. I waited to cross a street. Four or five preteen boys walked by me with their dog. One of them was trying to get the dog to stay

Pretty neighborhood; I can't find my car

Rating
Friday, August 26 2016

I was driving in a really pretty neighborhood. It looked like it was in the East, not here in Phoenix. There were lots of big trees. The streets were wide. It was hilly, and some houses were on hills above street level. I parked and got out of my car. I was looking to take a photo of the day. I was near a large park and considered shooting that, but I decided to walk around. I walked down some streets. I liked where I was. A thin woman jogged by. I thought it was my friend Hilary at first (th

Parking on top of a cabin

Rating
Monday, September 28 2015

I parked my car at the end of a parking lot. It was night. Somehow I parked on top of a wooden house or cabin. I climbed down and walked into the building at the other end of the lot.    The building was a large arcade and restaurant similar to Dave & Buster's. Meghan was with me now. We walked up some steps.    We played some games of chance. I don't know if we win any or what exactly the games were. We walked back down the steps. On the way down, two

Waking up from a nap

Rating
Monday, May 5 2014

The radio was on when I woke up from a nap. It was an NPR station or some kind of talk radio. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 6:13. I had to work at 7, so I rushed and got out of bed. I looked back at the clock, and it was 12:30. That confused me. On the radio was a show about teenagers. It started by playing recordings of teenage boys' reactions to bad news or doing something they didn't want to do. They all whined, and most cried. I wondered if I sounded like that as an adult. I fel

I want to get my brother a beer

Rating
Thursday, September 5 2013

Vince, my brother and I were in a town, and we were going to a bar later. I wanted to try to get my brother to drink beer. He doesn't like it, but I said he probably would like Yuengling because it is light and doesn't have much flavor. Inside Vince's SUV, we talked about a $20 bill I found. It wasn't American currency. I thought it was Estonian, but I later realized it was Malaysian. Stamped in black text on the bottom was "SHERIFF DEPARTMENT." I wondered if this was seized in a drug raid. We

Teens make me feel old

Monday, April 8 2013

Meghan Z. and I were in a bedroom with some teenage girls. She somehow knew one of them or was related to one, and the others were that girl's friends. They were talking, and Meghan and I were quizzing them on things from our youth. We eventually learned that they knew nothing we knew from the 1990s. Obviously they didn't know the '80s, but not knowing the '90s was shocking to us. I was astonished. I didn't want to tell them how old I was and what I remembered because being 30 around teenagers

Photographing 2 models and driving through a flood

Rating
Monday, November 5 2012

I was hired to do a model shoot of two teenage girls. We were inside a place with a layout similar to my apartment, but it had more furniture. I had them sit on the couch, and I photographed them using my 50 1.4 lens. Then I told them to change into new outfits. They went into my room and changed in the closet. While they changed, I took clothes out of the microwave and put them in the dryer. The dryer was on the floor, and the microwave was up with the cabinets. I had a hard time handling the
