Ponch's sick kid

Rating
Wednesday, August 10 2016

I was walking down a long, dark hallway in an unfamiliar place. My former co-worker Ponch was at the end of the hall. He was talking on his cellphone. I heard him say something about his youngest son to his wife. I stopped and listened. He said his kid was throwing up all night. I was a little worried and asked if I could do anything to help.

Strange ski lift with Meghan

Rating
Wednesday, January 20 2016

Meghan and I got on a ski lift. It wasn't winter and we weren't on a mountain. It was more like the chair lift rides at amusement parks. The setup was unusual. We were next to a similar ski lift, but it was held up by a helicopter. Both started moving. The helicopter version reminded me of an incident during the Winter Olympics when a head of state (I don't know what country, though I think it was Yugoslavia) fell out of a ski lift and hurt his head. I mentioned this to Meghan.

I was on a plane in the early morning. It was dark out. I got up and left my row and went to an empty seat. My mom was in the row I was now sitting in.    I opened a magazine I found in the seat back. There was a two-page ad that had tear-away parts. One part was a window. You'd "open" (tear away) the shade an reveal a destination. At the bottom was a small strip that tore away. That had removable paper that had a code on it for 99 Southwest points and two free drin

Riding a bike through various activities

Rating
Sunday, June 14 2015

I was riding a bicycle through the industrial area south of Phoenix's central business district. I also had my camera with me. I rode through lots of things going on: youth camps, job fairs and construction. I rode west on one street that had a lot of construction on it. I turned right on another street, but it was being torn up. I stopped on the dirt because I couldn't go any further. A woman on a bike rode up to me, and I told her to stop because the road was a dead end. She thanked

The cheap casino

Rating
Sunday, March 29 2015

I was on a road trip. I was tired and wanted to find a hotel. I knew I was near Las Vegas. I typed "Motel 6" into my GPS. I wanted a cheap option.    A lot of motels came up. I was only a block away from some. I saw midrise buildings but no casinos, so I was surprised I was only a few streets away from the Strip. I went to the motel and parked in a parking garage.    I entered double glass doors. I was in a casino. It was for cheap people, and it was rea

Matt's sick at Cedar Point

Rating
Wednesday, November 12 2014

I was at the front of Cedar Point near Midway Market, though the midway felt roomier and not crowded. I passed by someone who looked familiar, so I stopped. It was Matt, an old childhood friend. I said, "Matt? How are you?" He stared at me like he didn't know who I was. I said my name, and we shook hands. He seemed out of it. He apologized and said he'd been sick lately. He was trying not to cough until he threw up. I told him Tim Vines was a mere 20 feet away in a break are

Flying in a small propeller plane

Rating
Sunday, June 16 2013

I was inside a tiny two-propeller airplane at the Kayenta airport. It only sat five passengers in single file and the two pilots. I was seated in the front. Behind me was a plastic divider separating me from the rest of the passengers. The propellers started, and I got pretty nervous. Because the plane was so small, I assumed everyone but me would get airsick. There were buckets in my compartment, and I figured they were in case you got sick. I would have to open the compartment and hand the bu

Cooking a tiny chicken on a cooking tour

Rating
Saturday, August 11 2012

I was in a large room like a convention center floor. I was on a tour of some cooking thing. At the start of the tour, we're told to put a chicken breast on a hot pan. All the pans are small and lined up in two rows. The group leader tells us it's a Brazilian recipe and asks if anyone knows Portuguese. I lie and say I took a class. Somehow that was a joke. People laughed. I thought of saying it was at Harvard but didn't. I put the tiny chicken on the pan. Some oil spattered. My former

Raptor's really long entrance ramp

Rating
Sunday, August 5 2012

I was walking up to ride Raptor at Cedar Point, and the entrance queue was a really long ramp. It had a concrete floor and was on a slight incline. It had black handrails on both sides and took odd turns left and right as it worked its way toward the station. Raptor's station looked normal. I was ahead of a few people, and no one was ahead of me. I saw a puddle of vomit on the ground, so I stepped around it and kept walking. Shortly ahead were a few more smaller puddles. I hopped over them and

Going up the hill

Rating
Monday, November 28 2011

I was walking up the hill in Kayenta. It was much longer than the actual hill. The high school was having cross country practice, and a few runners passed me. There was a table set up just to the left of the path. A young woman sat at it with three or four small glasses in front of her. Each had a liquid with a different color in it. She was told they were alcohol. She didn't want to drink them because she said one would get her drunk. I passed that table. About 10 feet beyond that was another
