Van Morrison the TV repair man

Monday, February 11 2013

I was at a small flat of a friend's and one of the guests was Van Morrison. I couldn't think of anything smart to say to him at first, then had the great idea of handing him a guitar and asking if he would be so good as to tune it up for me. I figured that he would not then be able to resist playing a little something afterwards, and that it would be a great story to tell in future of how I got a private Van Morrison concert for free! It didn't quite go as planned though, because when he loo

Guitar Solo

Saturday, January 26 2013

It was only in the past year that I discovered who DIDN'T play guitar solo on Goodbye To Love... Goodbye To Love was playing upstairs on the radio at my parents house and Richard Carpenter rushed upstairs to take the solo. I was so moved by the guitar that it made me cry. I hid behind my bedroom door so I couldn't be seen by a friend. I thought of how since hearing the song on one particular emotive occasion this now always happens, and of how you can listen to music and get

Acoustic Air Guitar

Monday, September 3 2012

I was with my older brother, both playing blues on acoustic guitars. We were playing a song we had written called Spinning Top with sample lyrics 'got myself a baby, she spins like a spinning top'. I was playing some kind of acoustic air guitar and was getting into the music when my brother said it was time for him to go to bed. I wasn't enthused with this idea: I had the impression that we were going to get the electric guitars out and kick it into overdrive.

The red guitar

Tuesday, June 12 2012

I was pulling up and rearranging my jeans at home (a regular habit as they keep slipping down), but was constantly interrupted by Sally's friend and cat. They had come into the house and were in the bedroom.   I was at a bus stop, waiting for my transport home. I was looking in the window of a music shop at some very tasty looking guitars. On impulse I bought myself a flashy looking red one for £300 and immediately sold it on for £200. It just so happened that with me at the

Pete Townsend dream

Sunday, February 28 2010

I was in a train, sitting in a carriage with Sophie. I noticed an acoustic bass guitar opposite me and picked it up to play. It was then that I noticed that Pete Townsend was on the train so I put it back down as he or his band might need it later. Everyone on the train then began to more towards the front as they breakfast was being served and we were to be entertained with music. Sophie then noticed she had left her handbag behind so we returned to our seats and were by now getting to the fron

Mama Weer All Crazee Now

Friday, November 20 2009

I was at a concert, watching Slade perform their greatest hits. There was a fifth member of the group playing guitar, and I was told that this was because Dave Hill had drunk too much lager during a booze session, resulting in his becoming mentally ill and being unable to play his instrument.

The Camden concert

Sunday, October 29 2006

I was in Camden, watching an open air concert from behind the stage. There was a buy on a bridge, doing an impression of Kurt Cobain, though he looked more like the Nirvana drummer to me. He looked as though he may fall from the bridge at any time. There was also a band practicing in my front room that was playing too loud. The guitarist quite thoughtfully turned his guitar amp down to a bearable level.

Playing guitar with Roger Hodgson

Tuesday, April 18 2006

I was playing Roger Hodgson's guitar and when i saw Sophie she at first didn't realise both what I was doing or who I was with. After I had played a few pleasant sounds with a few other guys (who may have been Supertramp) he wanted it back. I asked him to pose for a picture with me and the odd thing is that he looked like Jeff Lynne - formerly of ELO, who are Sophie's other favourite band.

The concert. I'm no Gene Simmons!

Saturday, March 25 2006

I had to play bass guitar at a rock concert, but had forgotten the booking and hadn't even got my guitar. My friend Mick Dust wasn't at all happy till I said I was going home to collect it as I would be passing by before the event. The funny thing is, I don't play the instrument and was working out how I was going to bluff my way through a full length concert in which none of the band members had ever played together or practiced before.

The Jimi Hendrix tribute flop

Monday, November 7 2005

A man then tried to sell me a gadget to chat to friends via text on my PC and I had to tell him that I did that years ago on Yahoo and a Jimi Hendrix tribute guy was playing in a church, but his performance was poor and also he had the wrong guitar with the wrong sound for what he was trying to play. At one point I seemed to be the guy in question.
