Newspaper cuttings

Sunday, June 10 2012

This was a workplace type dream of being in a canteen area and looking to buy a newspaper. To do this I had to give some 20p coins in exchange for cloakroom tickets. The tickets were all in odd denominations and the one I wanted was not available. Well, I managed to get the tickets I wanted, though now I had a bag full of cuttings of newspaper headlines. Why couldn't I just use my Evernote mobile program and take notes? That was all I could think.

Lay-la playing as a house burns down

Sunday, October 4 2009

I was waiting with Kim at a bus stop, travelling to work. When I met her there, I could hear Layla playing, and as I sat down I motioned that I couldn't speak for a moment because I was so moved to tears by the closing instrumental section. A man interrupted the mood by asking if he could borrow my newspaper. I declined, but Kim told me to stop being so mean so I relented. Cars and lorries were squeezing up onto the pavement because of a traffic incident nearby, but it wasn't until Kim loo

All dark in the cinema

Tuesday, July 7 2009

Well it's obviously stated, but I was in a cinema and it was pitch black. It was also dark in the toilet, where I was using the facilities. I had the feeling that I was not alone, and threw a newspaper that I had at a dark shape in the corner. It was a dog. It was a dog that was snarling like it it had been hit by a newspaper, which was quite a coincidence because that was what had just happened.

The Metro Monster

Sunday, June 14 2009

At work we were discussing the big news of the day: who or what was stealing  copies of The Metro and what was happening to them? The Metro was being left for collection by distributers around London at 3am and huge numbers were almost instantly going missing. It just so happened that the newsstand I pass by each morning was one of the stages beng looked at in the dissappearance. Well I discovered purely by chance that there was a green monster going around eating whatever copies he co

Ex suvives a plane scare

Tuesday, April 3 2007

My ex Danette was on the front pages of newspapers after her internal flight in the USA crashed or at the very least ran into mechanical problems. It wasn't the most flattering of photographs either, but it seemed as though she had survived unscathed.

Newspaper article

Sunday, February 11 2007

I was looking at an old newspaper article and trying to find the rest of an item on another page. The age old problem of where it continued on from. I had been talking to a friend whilst he sat on another table. There were people between us and I thought it was rude to talk through them, so I asked him to move nearer.

Fire and snow

Monday, July 24 2006

I had a whole bunch of embers from a fire that I wanted to get rid of. I put them onto an old newspaper and then out onto the fresh snow that had fallen in the garden. Well, the newspaper caught fire, and where it had been laid it was the contributing factor in the collapse of the garden wall. I had a flash of déjà vu when I felt I had gone the exact same thing before.

The Young Ones arsonist

Sunday, May 7 2006

I stood in the kitchen at Sophie's and was getting a cup of tea ready. There was a packet of white Rolos on the counter that I pinched for further consumption. Characters from The Young Ones TV show were playing games with Fire. One had his newspaper catch fire from below and another threw what can only be described as petals into the leaping flames so that they would light and float elsewhere.

The evil newspaper tycoon

Monday, March 13 2006

An evil newspaper magnate and henchman get their just deserts for their evil ways, and I take over the local paper and turn it around. The first copy is ready to go out and so I take a look at it. There is loads of advertising, but it looks good anyway. I want to deliver lots of copies right away, so at Midnight I sell the first copy to my brother David whilst I am walking up a ladder.

Feeling sad after a funeral and getting bad publicity

Thursday, June 30 2005

Five pictures of me at a funeral for my old friend Clive Butterfield are printed in a newspaper and I am criticised for my dress sense and the crease in my trousers. I was more upset that they had chosen such a sad time to make the cutting remarks because any other time I would've been able to laugh it off.
