Finder Of Feathers

Thursday, September 4 2008

Fragment of a larger forgotten dream. Following some events which I can no longer recall, I found myself in the company of many people, over near the woods to the south of our house. They looked slightly different; the land was a lot hillier, full of hummocks and hollows, quite steep in places, similar to Mackinac Island. There was a lot of long grass like that near the ditches, all along the floor of the woods. It was sunny and nice outside and most of the people with me were up and about, wand

Basil Johnston's Visit

Sunday, July 6 2008

This is from quite a while back. I don't really recall the dream, just the plot, which is simple. Basically, Ojibwa author Basil Johnston (see "Basil Johnston For The Defense") was visiting my house for some reason. I don't remember why; he just was. I was of course thrilled and quite anxious about this, and really wanted to communicate with him somehow, but throughout the entire dream he was pretty standoffish and uninvolved. I don't know if he was irritated to be there, or just neutral or disi

Basil Johnston For The Defense

Monday, December 17 2007

This dream is from several days ago so it's much faded, but here's the general idea. This seemed to be part of a bigger dream. I was being taken to court for some reason, and I guess I was the defendant because witnesses were to be called. I don't know where this was taking place; it was just some room in some building, vague, nothing noteworthy. There were other people present but I don't know who they were--likely the judge, and a prosecutor or whatever, and maybe I had a lawyer too. In any

Wild Dogs In The Night, Redux

Thursday, October 26 2006

Vague. I think I was staying with my brother, sister-in-law, and niece Rayne, just as I am in real life, though I'm unsure. The reality of the dream kept shifting. In real life, they have a big black dog, a Lab named Magni; he barks a lot when people show up but other than that he's pretty timid and easy to get along with. Well, in my dream, I guess there was this pack of wild dogs roaming around outside at night attacking and sometimes killing people. It seemed partly like real life, partly l

The Old Man & Me

Thursday, May 4 2006

From an hour before I woke up, so it's vague and kind of muddled. I was in high school. Some sort of class was going on, and an elderly American Indian man came in and was introduced by the teacher. He may have been actor Graham Greene (Dances With Wolves, Maverick, The Red Green Show), but I'm not sure. I'm hazy on what exactly was going on here, but it was an assignment for us students to do something that would impress this man the most, and whoever accomplished this "won" something...I don

Crying For Rabbit

Sunday, February 19 2006

Vague since I took no notes. There was an earlier part of the dream, now mostly faded, dealing with an American Indian sitcom on TV, just a jokey show about an Indian family. In one scene as a couple of main characters went walking past the screen, in the back you could see three (?) women kind of shuffling/dancing, not somberly, but kind of in a funny, grooving way; the camera moved in close on them for a moment and then went back to the show. I found this silly and irritating because the dance

The Mide Lodge In My Living Room

Monday, December 12 2005

I had this dream yesterday but forgot to take it down, so it's kind of vague now. I somehow acquired an old, old photograph of the living room of our house, and was surprised to see that in the far past, a Midewiwin lodge had been erected right where our footstool is now. The Midewiwin is a mystic society of the Ojibwa and related Indian tribes, known as the Grand Medicine Society, and they practice curing and spiritual rites even to this day, some in a long wigwam known as the Mide lodge. The o

Seven Times On Saturday!

Tuesday, September 6 2005

This dream is just a fragment right before I woke up for good. I had obtained a videocassette or a DVD (in the dream I never ascertained which it was, even when I looked at the case) with some movie about an Indian. I think it was set in old times, early contact period or maybe pre-contact. It was just a movie about this young Indian man and his experiences as a warrior or some such, kind of an adventure or action movie. I seemed to be in someone else's house. I was looking at the video/DVD ca

We Fly In All Directions, AKA Interview With The Indians

Tuesday, September 6 2005

This was quite an interesting and realistic dream, more so than such dreams usually are. I took note of it immediately after awakening. Even so, the earlier parts are unfortunately lost to me. :( I do know that I somehow ended up talking with a woman about the Ojibwa Indians. I KNOW this woman was associated with them somehow and was considered one of them, but I don't get the impression that she was 100% native; maybe she was half, or some such. Whatever the case was, she was "one of them," a

Hairstyles Of The Huron

Tuesday, September 6 2005

What the heck? I had at least three separate dreams about Native American Indians last night. O_o Well, here goes the first one. Just a snippet. I think it was a book I was looking at in my bedroom. It was talking about the Huron (Wyandotte) Indians and the hairstyles they were known for. There were illustrations. A big fullpage illustration of a Huron man and the typical hairstyle. They were known for some sort of "clubbed" hairstyle. There were several pictures (artwork, since these were ear
