Gothic Lit, AKA Horace Walpole's Unknown Short Story

Sunday, April 4 2010

I believe I was in my bedroom, sitting on the bed facing my east wall (in reality I usually sit the other way when not sleeping), and it was daytime and bright out, my windows covered but still letting in diffused light. I was reading a book of Gothic short stories. I started a new story whose title I can't recall but I believe it was a woman's name (first and last), and might have started with an A, like Ambrosia or Antonia or something. I paused to look at the name of the author and it said "S

I Didn't Know Glooskap Back Then!

Monday, March 2 2009

A weird dream along the lines of "Multiple Personality." Vague by now. There was some stuff before this but I can't remember it. I was in a place that seemed kind of like my bedroom but kind of not since it was more public, like in a library or something. Ma was there, some distance away. I don't recall all the specifics and such but I located a book on a bookshelf (around where my CD shelf would be if this were my room) and pulled it down to look at it because it intrigued me. The title mention

Library Browsing

Friday, January 2 2009

Just a fragment of a bigger dream, mostly forgotten by now. I merely remember being in a library or bookstore or cross between the two, though I believe it was a library. I was with someone else but I don't know who they were; an acquaintance or something, probably male. I don't feel we were really close friends, but I must have known him (?) well enough since I wasn't anxious. When he went off to look at some books on his own I wandered about, browsing things curiously. The library wasn't huge

The Building Of Arch Rock

Thursday, June 5 2008

Yesterday I went to Fort Michilimackinac and bought a huge book called A Picturesque Situation: Mackinac Before Photography, 1615-1860 by Brian Leigh Dunnigan; it has all sorts of weird old maps and sketches of Mackinac Island and the Straits region. And then I had a Mackinac Island dream! :D So here we go. In the dream, I believe I was in my bedroom looking at this book. As I browsed the pictures I came to an old sketch of Arch Rock. It amused me at first because the artist's rendering was so i

Walk Through The Wilderness

Sunday, October 7 2007

Somewhat faded and such. I can't recall the beginning but I do know I ended up with a group of people who were walking about, perhaps on a field trip or tour or hike. We were out in the country but I feel that civilization was nearby so it wasn't total wilderness. It was grassy--kind of dryish grass, light green and brownish--and there were trees here and there, maybe in little stands--gnarled trees I think--and there were kind of dusty, rocky trails and outcroppings and such--not round hills

Crying For Rabbit

Sunday, February 19 2006

Vague since I took no notes. There was an earlier part of the dream, now mostly faded, dealing with an American Indian sitcom on TV, just a jokey show about an Indian family. In one scene as a couple of main characters went walking past the screen, in the back you could see three (?) women kind of shuffling/dancing, not somberly, but kind of in a funny, grooving way; the camera moved in close on them for a moment and then went back to the show. I found this silly and irritating because the dance

The Ogopogo Coin

Wednesday, February 15 2006

This may have in fact been two different dreams but they could very well have gone together. It was kind of nightish, and Dad and I were at home together, watching TV. There was some sort of funny video or show in which a little girl pushed her mother into the bathroom shower stall and left her there for some sort of "surprise" or something (like, "Wait in here!"); she was rather abrupt about it though, so I said to Dad, "Oh, THAT'S nice!" The bathroom was dim like the lights were on outside it

Laughing Maples

Monday, June 13 2005

This dream is from 6/7/05 but I'm taking it down much later, so it's much faded. This is as I wrote it down in my journal: Dozed on the couch and must've been REALLY tired, as I had a long dream. I remember kind of looking around in the house, then going into the upstairs stairwell and digging out a bunch of Mackinac Island-related stuff. Slides (?), photos, postcards...I remembered I had a mention of Fairy Arch on one of them, and started seeking it, but never found it. :/ And most of the ima

Landmarks Unknown

Saturday, January 1 2005

Just a very vague snippet. All I know is I was looking at a book or something and it had these really old woodcuts and paintings and such of different natural Mackinac Island landmarks, like Arch Rock and such; they were all black and white or in sepia tones. Since they were so old some of the landmarks still in existence looked very weird because of the artist's rendition of them. I recall an arch and/or rock formation of some kind that I do not think was Arch Rock, and some of them had weird

The Ballad Of Arch Rock

Thursday, November 25 2004

Ma and I were watching, on TV, some sort of old film that had been shot on or was about Mackinac Island. It was fictional. At some point this male narrator or something began to sing a song about Arch Rock, a natural formation on the island, and it was remarkably cheesy. Just this stupid old-fashioned (Forties or Fifties) song about the rock. O_o A slow song in a Bing Crosby-type voice. I watched the film while listening to this, wondering if they would actually SHOW Arch Rock. They finally di
