Slews Of Skunks!

Friday, February 24 2012

Fragment. I went to look out on the front porch to see if there were any animals. The porch was different in a way I can't describe, the area around it too; maybe it looked more like the way my Grandma B.'s backyard used to look. It was bigger and the layout just seemed different, somehow. It was overcast and daytime though I think it was supposed to be later, since the only animals that tend to show up regularly in the daytime are squirrels and birds. I'm not sure how many, but I saw at least o

Lookin' For Cats, Lookin' For Cats

Friday, December 30 2011

Vague fragment. I looked out my righthand west window in my bedroom, the one overlooking the front porch. It seemed to be evening, dark just falling, meaning it was around five PM or a little after. It was getting dim. I had my lights off, I think, so I could peer outside unnoticed; I was looking to see if any of the cats that visit our porch for food were out there. The most frequent visitors are the little black cats, of which there used to be three, though at most we only seem to see one or t

A Jumping Skunk Stumps Me

Friday, December 2 2011

I'm typing this up quite a while after having it so it's vague by now. I do know I was at home with my mother (not sure about Dad); I can't recall the time of day anymore, or if it was light or dark, though it was probably dark/night. There was a slight skunk smell in the air, so I figured one had been around and sprayed (a common occurrence in the late autumn). "Uh-oh," I thought, "they're at it again." I went to the front porch door to peer outside since that's where the skunks show up at nigh

Coyotes Pretty

Thursday, March 10 2011

Fragment from a couple of days ago. For this dream, I thought that taking down one note--"Wolves," crossed out and then replaced with "Coyotes"--would be enough for me to remember. Alas, not so. I ended up remembering only the one main image referred to in the note. Basically, I looked out on the front porch at night, turning on the light, and was surprised to see several largish animals gathered outside, not right in front of the door but seemingly further down. (They seemed further away than w

Whole Lotta Chipmunks Goin' On!

Monday, September 18 2006

I went to look out on the front porch to see if any animals were feeding. Either it was winter and snow was piled on the porch or dead leaves were piled on the porch; in any case, SOMETHING was piled around the food dish. And there were LOTS of chipmunks out there. First I saw only two or three...but then I saw another...and another...until I saw at least eight to a dozen of them, all out there at the same time! And they weren't even fighting! In fact, most were in pairs, crawling over each ot

Snow & Therapists & Bears, Oh My

Monday, April 10 2006

Very vague and from my nap; I took no notes. It all seemed to revolve around looking out the front porch door window. There was one part in the beginning when it was dark outside and Dad was up; I looked outside, and I think I opened the door maybe to toss out some rabbit or bird food. I saw a large black shape ambling from west to east in the driveway or just beyond it. It was in silhouette even though there's no light source back there and it was dark out. I knew it was a baby black bear, an

Rabbit Returns

Friday, March 10 2006

I went to look out at the porch early in the morning and went walking right up to the door. I froze at the last second and spotted a gangly brown rabbit slowly hopping toward the porch and then, after sniffing around a bit, making its way up the steps. I was so happy to see it there. :) I didn't want to scare it away, but I was right up to the window--so I very slowly started creeping back, like I do whenever I come across mourning doves (which are easily frightened birds). The rabbit continue

One Little, Two Little, Four Little Kitties

Wednesday, April 27 2005

It was late evening, still somewhat light out but growing dark; maybe around eight or eight-thirty. I went to look out on the front porch and see if there were any rabbits there. It was later in the year than it really is, because the branches of that bush to the right of the porch were extending through the bars, and they were very leafy--even more so than in real life, like our "bamboo"--and kind of obscured my view. I looked down. It was almost dusk and it was hard to see but I did spot two

'Bozho & 'Basso

Friday, April 8 2005

It was nighttime, dark out, and I went to look out onto the porch to see if the rabbit(s) were present. I turned on the porch light and saw some sort of grayish-brownish mass on the porch which I couldn't make out at first--it's like my eyes or mind couldn't recognize or determine what it was. I had to squint or blink a few times (my vision wasn't blurry, it's just that my mind wasn't making things out right!) before I realized it was a rabbit. There were two rabbits, cottontails, out on the p

Wild Backyard

Monday, June 28 2004

Sketchy, but a pleasant dream while I was having it. :) In real life I scatter birdseed, and occasionally other scraps, out on the front porch. As a result we have had varied visitors, including sparrows, chickadees, mourning doves, indigo buntings, mice, possums, raccoons, skunks, a rabbit, and even a stray cat who is a dead ringer for my deceased cat Pepper. I particularly favor the rabbit and the cat, and I'm often checking the porch just to see if there's anything hanging out out there. Well
